After a local news channel
began airing visuals of a sting operation
over the alleged corrupt practices of a
member, officials of the Andhra Pradesh
Public Service Commission (APPSC)
approached the city police to conduct an
inquiry into the allegations.
On Wednesday, a local TV channel aired a
video in which APPSC member G S Seeta
Ramaraju was found playing cards at an
apartment in Madhapur with a woman
named Sandhya.
According to the report, Sandhya, hailing
from Bheemavaram, allegedly has contacts
with several politicians, including the CM's
younger brother, and top bureaucrats
and she is using these contacts to get
government jobs for candidates who are
willing to pay a price. Sandhya reportedly
runs a job consultancy office near the
CM's camp office.
After the channel began airing the
footage, APPSC secretary Charu Sinha
approached Hyderabad police
commissioner Anurag Sharma and gave a
representation asking the police to
conduct an inquiry into the incident. The
APPSC secretary also gave police a CD
containing the footage about the alleged
scam.
The police commissioner has forwarded
the complaint to Central Crime Station
(CCS) sleuths and directed them to
conduct an inquiry.
Meanwhile, after the news broke out,
students of Osmania University staged a
dharna in front of the APPSC office
demanding immediate arrest of the tainted
officials.
After the students burnt an effigy of the
chief minister, Begum Bazaar police took
eight protesters into preventive custody
and released them later on station bail.
